International Women’s Day 2018

The theme for International Women’s Day this year is #PressForProgress. The message is that despite much progress being made in recent years, there is still a long way to go.

The World Economic Forum estimates that full global gender parity is still over 200 years away. Women are still not paid equally to their male counterparts, women still are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women’s education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men.

So to mark this International Women’s Day, the scarlettabbott team reflected on the importance of diversity in the workplace and making progress on gender equality.

Diversity and inclusion are high on the agenda for all our clients, but there’s been a real focus in recent weeks on Gender Pay Gap reporting ahead of the upcoming deadline. From 6 April 2017 employers in Great Britain with more than 250 staff will be required by law to publish figures annually on their own website and on a government website.

We’ve been working on both the reports and employee engagement activities around what those numbers really mean. A recurring theme emerged: that progress has been made but that there’s still work to do. This really resonates with the #PressForProgress campaign.
