How an understanding of cultural anthropology can improve employee experience.

There’s a lot of talk out there about making work and business more ‘human’ ...

But what does it mean to be human in the first place? This is where our expertise in cultural anthropology – the science of what makes us human — differentiates our insights offering. This is especially the case if you need a deeper dive into understanding your people and your culture.

When we work somewhere for a long time, it’s easy to take culture, processes and everything else for granted. We can give you insights with a fresh perspective and a trained eye on what it’s like for your people to make a better world of work

We also know that what people say, what people think and what people do doesn’t always align; our anthropologist can help explore those gaps, identify tensions and conflicts, and provide both the current picture of where you are and the map for what you need to do to get to where you want to go for your ideal employee experience.

Think of it as a way to place parts of your organisation under a microscope with a trained eye on the other end.

How we can help.

What we’ll do

Get a holistic view of your organisation and how structures and individual experience fit together. For example, how might your incentive and progression policies affect individual experience around wellbeing and diversity and inclusion?

Conduct quantitative and qualitative research. This can range from broad surveys and focus groups to one-to-one interviews, all the way to immersive participant-observation. This is where our resident anthropologist will immerse themselves in your organisation for a few days or weeks for some deep-dive data collection.

Playback our findings on how the big-picture processes around key employee engagement areas work in your organisation. For example, how do expectations around workloads and taking on commitments contribute to burnout?

Identify issues and opportunities that will make your workplace more human, more connected and more inclusive.

What’s it really like to work in your organisation?

Not just the view from the C-suite, HR or Internal Communications, but what’s it like on the frontline? What’s the day-to-day experience for line managers? Or what about your IT teams that are constantly firefighting? How does it feel to work there if you’re from a diverse background and don’t fit whatever norms or stereotypes are in place?
